Tetra

A free palette editor that runs in your browser

Tetra is a tool for creating, editing, and managing color palettes. Create custom palettes by picking your own colors, generating gradients with cosine waves, or extracting colors from images.

Save your palettes to collections for easy organization, and import and export them for backup or sharing.

Color Editor

Pick your own colors and build a palette from scratch. Add up to eight colors, drag to reorder, and adjust each one with the color wheel. Try the randomize options for inspiration.

  • Color modes: RGB, HSV, OkLab, or OKLCH
  • Gradient stops: Set positions for each color or distribute them evenly

Cosine Editor

Generate smooth gradient palettes using cosine wave functions. Set the offset, amplitude, frequency, and phase per channel, or just randomize to experiment. Presets give you quick starting points for each color mode.

  • Color modes: RGB, HSV, OkLab, or OKLCH, each producing different color harmonies
  • Blend modes: Smooth gradients or stepped discrete colors

From Image

Extract colors from images to create palettes. Upload a file, paste a URL, or search Pixabay.

Click on an image to choose colors yourself, or use auto-extract to select colors automatically. Five extraction algorithms give you different results from the same image:

  • Histogram: Samples the most frequent colors
  • K-Means: Clusters pixels to find dominant colors
  • Median Cut: Splits color space for balanced coverage
  • Random: Grabs colors at random from the image
  • Vibrant: Selects the most saturated, high-impact colors

Palettes

Browse and organize your saved palettes. Group them into collections, duplicate them, or open any palette to keep editing. Use the action menu on each palette for quick export, delete, or other options.

Import & Export

Bring palettes in from files or by pasting text. Tetra reads JSON, GPL, ASE, ACO, PNG, and CSS formats. Drag and drop works too. Export palettes as JSON, CSS variables, SCSS, Tailwind config, or images.

Library Management

Export your full library (all collections and palettes) as a single .tetra-library.json file, and import it on another browser or device.

About

Tetra is made with love by Noise Factor and is designed to work with Noisedeck. Copy palettes from here and paste them straight into Noisedeck's Tetra palette effects.

Your palettes stay on your device and never leave your browser. Since everything is stored locally, it's a good idea to export your library now and then so you don't lose your creations.
